Fine Furniture & Decorative Arts Auction, Melbourne, October 2010

The forthcoming Fine Furniture & Decorative Arts auction will be conducted over two evenings on 25 and 26 October. The sale includes a wonderfully diverse and interesting selection of European, English, Asian and Australian furniture, clocks, paintings, ceramics, sculpture and works of art. It also includes pieces from the collection of the Late Gloria Staley and the collection of the Late Charles Lloyd Jones. Decorative Arts Auction, March 2008 - Waddington's

The first night of Waddington's March 2008 Decorative Arts auction was a successful start to the sale's three sessions, with notable examples of silver, glass and ceramics available to bidders. The highlight of the session came early in the evening when a Russian Faberge Kovsh, estimated at $7000 / 10000, sold for a staggering price of $142800. Consigned amongst other silver pieces from an estate in Eastern Ontario, the Kovsh was bought by a London agent for an unidentified collector. Gerald Cantor Chairman, Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts, talks about the gifts of French decorative arts by Jayne and Charles Wrightsman, including the furnishing of the Museum's period rooms. Organized by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Center for the History of Collecting in America at The Frick Collection, this event takes place in the galleries of the exhibition highlighting the works of art acquired by the Met during the directorship of Philippe de Montebello. Curators speak about the relationships between institutions and donors as they stand in front of featured works of art.
